| Do I have an ID?
This is another one of my freebies. Its now in flower so maybe someone can identify it. Its been tenativly ID'ed as a Vandofinetia Blaupunkt by looking at the pictures online. So far its growing well and I will cut the spikes as soon as I get an ID so it can concentrate its energy elsewhere. Andi |

Very pretty and dainty! It is difficult to ID orchids by flower pictures, as I am sure you've found. Next to impossible for a lot of hybrids, because there are so many that looks similar. I've looked at some Blaupunkt pics online, and I don't think your flowers look the same as them. Similar. What I see different is that your petals are more roundish, where the Blaupunkt ones are slimmer and almost rectangular. The Blaupunkt flowers also look more blue, but that might be a result of the type of light used to take the either your photos or theirs. If my Blaupunkt ever blooms, I'll post some pics so we can compare. For now, good luck figuring it out! |

Well it is certainly a Neo intergeneric. You can see the Neo influence in the flowers. Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to identify an untagged hybrid and especially so form web photos alone as incorrectly ID'd photos are rampant on the web. With hybrids too there is so much variation that one web photo (even correctly identified) can't possibly be enough to confirm that your plant is or is not Vandofinetia Blaupunkt. One Blankpunkt could take on more of the Neo parent and have longer narrower petals while another could be more like the Vanda parent and have shorter, rounder petals. Is there any way to contact the place you gor it from? Fortunately you do not have to have it accurately ID'd in order to grow and bloom it. It's a charming little flower nice and open (which is usually not the case wiht Neo hybrids). Enjoy!
