| A new plant has started sprouting from the underside of the flowers. This was a second blooming on this spike. Now a leaf and what seems as a root are coming out of the spike. Should I cut the spike and plant the whole thing in another pot? Thanx Lou |

| Hi Lou, welcome to the forum. We need to know what kind of orchid you have but as a general guide your 'baby' is called a keiki and will continue to grow until it produces leaves and roots. When the roots are large enough, (two to three inches long) you can remove the keiki from the spike and pot it up. There is a very good article on how to do it at www.easyorchids.co.uk which has pics to show the whole proceedure. This article is for a phalaenopsis orchid which may well be what you have. Bill |

| I bet you've got a Phal? If so you could leave the baby, or keiki as we call them (keiki is Hawaiian for baby) or you could wait until it has probably 3 leaves and 3 or more roots about 2-3 inches long before cutting it off and potting it up.
