| I'm still mildly shocked but somehow I've managed to keep the 4 orchids I have alive for several months |
| |||
| Thank you. I'll take a few pics tomorrow and post them. I'm excited to see if I actually get a flower. The stick-like thing growing from one of them resembles the one that had flowers on it when it was given to me. It's grown several inches since yesterday. Anyway, I'll send pictures soon. Thanks again. Sue PS - what's a "sticky" post? I tried to figure it out but can't. |
| ||||
| a sticky thread means it will be seen in the top part of each section in each forum and wont be lost with other threads being made. Also a sticky is deemed to be important with information. members can have access to that thread all the time it can not be moved once made sticky. I hope that helps you |

| Welcome zuerose - looking forward to seeing your pictures! Ask lots of questions; everyone is really friendly. Well....except for maybe that monkey....

| Okay, here are a couple of photos Hi Again - here are a few pictures of my orchids that I took last night. The bud (if that's what it is) on the one with a single picture has grown even more since yesterday. So has the stick thing. It's amazing how quickly they change. I check them every day when I get home and usually that means you don't see a difference, if you know what I mean. If this is what an orchid does, I'm hooked! So based on a picture with no flower, does anyone know what they are? I have two more but I'll send those separate. They're smaller and more difficult to see in a photo. Thanks!!! Sue |

| Sue I have NO idea since I pretty much stick to phals and cymbidiums, but someone will! Pretty darn sure that is flower spike however. Lots of growers from Florida in this forum so they can give you great advice on how to grow in your region.

| Sue - it's very hard to tell at this stage. The first one/two look to be some form of Intergeneric Oncidium type. Will have to wait for the bloom. The other, can you take a closer pic? It kind of (please note the 'kind of') looks like a paph bud coming up. Is the spike/bud fuzzy? |
| |||
| I'll take more pictures tomorrow and post them. Regarding the question about whether the bud is fuzzy, no, it's smooth and shiny up close. It's grown a bit more so my pictures tomorrow should be better. This is fun - thank you again. Sue PS - here's a picture of my neighbor's orchid in full bloom not long ago. he does nothing to it (didn't even know what it was - it was there when he bought the house) but it sits on a table under an oak and is, obviously, quite happy. |

| Hi Fred, Believe me, I've tried to relieve him of it, offered to get that old-fashioned concrete table out of his yard at no cost to him. I even offered to pay him - he said he'd let me know-but he's never even there! I'd like to have it on our side of the fence (but still under the oak) because he has the house for sale. I'll keep trying. There's a second smaller (but still large) one on the other side of the oak. I'll see if I took a picture of it... no, the only one I have is before it was in bloom - just not the same. But I did find this other pic of the "giant orchid" which gives a pretty good idea of how big it really is. Sue |
