Repot Mini Mark Phal

Hi, a quick question. i received this several weeks ago from Oakhill they have nice plants. and it is now blooming. i was looking at it today and noticed it seems to be over growing its pot. some roots are coming out the bottom and it is sort of pushing up in the center and putting on new growth. do i need to repot it and do i need a larger pot or not. here are a couple of pictuers. Thanks Tommy

Unless you don't like bark or have reason to suspect the roots are in poor condition (which from the pics does not appear to be the case), I'd say it will be fine for at least another year. As a matter of principle I repot all obtained phals either immediately or right after blooming depending upon the media they are in and my preconceived notions of perceived root health. I like all my phals (about 35) in identical conditions and like knowing that any issues down the road are due to my care and not what I acquired from someone else. Good luck and enjoy! mike

That pot size looks fine. I would not go any larger. I think at least one of the parents is pretty small, so that is probably as large as the plant is going to get.

I agree with all of the above. The roots you are seeing are called aerial roots and are perfectly normal. If you have good luck with bark, leave it alone. If you don't like bark, let the plant finish blooming and then re-pot in your media of preference using the same pot size.

Nice little Mini Mark - I have one too and I just love it!

Tommy: I'm happy for you that you also received a nice blooming plant from Oak Hills. I have another thread going on my purchase from them. Yours looks really good and nice and healthy. Expect more spikes and more flowers to come. These are great little mini's.
