Re Potting Advice-clay pots and roots

How do you extricate the roots from a clay pot? Even after soaking, the roots are stuck to the pots surface.

Also can the roots that are above the medium be placed within it? It appears that the roots have grown this way to escape an overly wet medium from the previous caretaker as there are very few roots actually in the stuff. The ones that are do not look all that great.

Remove the plant CAREFULLY! If some roots still stick after soaking, I would take a butter knife and carefully unstick them. Yes, aerial roots can be placed in medium. You should remove any rotten/dead roots using a sterile tool.
