| Looks like a basal keiki - just let it grow alongside the mother for awhile and eventually it will have its own roots and can be removed to grow on its own (roots should start to develop along "its" base over time). |

| It's not uncommon for Phals to start a new growth at the base like this. For some varieties it is more common than for others. I have seen large Phals at shows that had 3-5 growths on them, making for large stunning displays of flowers when each growth has 1 or 2 flower spikes. Allow this growth to go on and mature. I would recommend that you not remove it unless there is a compelling reason to do so (like the mother plant is dying). If you leave it it will eventually spike along with the mother plant and give you a bigger, prettier display.
