My orchid was blooming very nicely, then all the flowers fell off secondary to overheating by the window. How do I get it to grow a new sprout?
When I look at the roots, it appears there are new growths. Are these the future stems for flower production?

If it is a Phalaenopsis, you can expect flower spikes in winter. If you cut the old flower spike off just below the lowest location of a past bloom (using sterilized tool), you may get a new branch with a few more, but slightly smaller flowers. Or just cut it off completely, and wait for the next blooming in winter, and the plant will have time to save up energy for that blooming, especially if it has had a hard time in your care.

If it is another kind of orchid, other rules apply.

Tom- most phals are at the end of their blooming cycle this time of year and your flowers were probably due to fade anyway. Once done blooming, your plant will start to grow new roots and leaves as part of it's normal growing pattern.
