Noid

I'm pretty sure this is a phal. It doesn't look like the phal that I currently have though and I have no idea what 'kind' of phal it is.

Thanks in advance!

it might be alittle better for the members to see if you made the pic smaller.

its a nice pic though its just way to big for the pc screens

you can resize your pic with the image hosting you use.

try that and pepost.
if you neen any help just sing out.

You're correct, it is a Phal. That's as far as we'll get though as there are more than 21,000 Phalaenopsis hybrids currently registered with the RHS (and that's just the registered ones - there are thousands more that are unregistered).

We can narrow it down a little based on the shape of the buds and flowers. It looks like the hybrid contains Phal venosa, possibly Phal violacea. Using this info to narrow it down we still have well over 1000 hybrids. If one had enough time, this might be a do-able task until we add to this 1) the fact that many of these hybrids look so much alike as to be virtually indistinguishable from one another, and 2) the fact that each hybrid encompasses a certain degree of variety within the cross.

So get a good Phal culture sheet (www.aos.org), enjoy growing and blooming your lovely noid Phal, and don't worry about what the cross is.

This is for all Newbies about names.

A commercial grower, who grows from seed, can name his results anything he likes (other than someone else's name). He can register it with the RHS or not.

With Phalaenopsis here in Florida, where a large percentage of Phals are grown for the US market, many are not named. It is just not worth the time or money to register and Phal hybrids all grow the same. It is expensive to keep individual name tags in pots and just not worth the expense for common Phals.

It is very important for Newbies to know the type of orchid "Phalaenopsis" so that they can give it the proper care.

A specific name is not really important. It is not even reliable that the same named orchid will have flowers looking like the original. Flowers vary greatly when grown from seed, even from the same seed pod. They next time this plant flowers the flowers may look different. The look can vary anywhere along its genetic family tree.

If you search the gallery for 'Phal' you will find several that look similar to yours. I think I posted one that looks like its sister.
