UK orchids sellers

Just wondered if anyone knew of any good orchid sellers in the UK.

there are not many commerical growers near me, so i am forced to use the internet for tagged and interesting orchids. there is one site, but it is limited and im not so sure on their growing, although i have bought from them before.

http://easyorchids.co.uk/shop/produc...roductid=16894

that little disa for £15 in a pot way too big kind of puts me off.

Hiya,
I'm also interested in UK sellers. I'm ready to buy again but there seems to be nothing round my way either (North East), other than the poor things you find in supermarkets or one or two in garden centres.

I've had a dig and found another forum , UK based, which may have some useful info re: sellers. I haven't looked that closely yet, but I will.
Edited

I was at a small local orchid club show in October (I'm lucky enough to have a local club - I may join) and this guy was there. My mum bought a couple of plants from him and they are doing well.
I've found him on the web, here's a link. http://www.davidsteadorchids.co.uk

Maybe there is a club near you that hosts their own show and a couple of sellers may turn up there? I think I may only be able to buy once a year when my local club has their show, but that could be a good thing !

Here's one other I've found, claiming quite a history in the business.
"Founded in 1879, McBean's remains one of the most famous names in orchid hybridization worldwide and the recipients of countless awards for cymbidium and odontoglossum breeding."

Good Luck. If you find any more, let me know

Andy

Thanks for the site mate

North East you say, it may be your lucky day!

http://www.devaorchids.co.uk/devaorc...hp?action=home

Not ideal position, but its closer than others

http://www.orchids.uk.com/paradise.htm

they are a million miles away but if your in the area

Both sites do postage orders, so all is not lost

I have managed to find a local orchid group and will be going along to the next meeting I'm hoping i can buy from people either in the group or who are known by members.

until i get that little house in the caribbean

excellent - two I hadn't found yet. there must be more out there...

Sooner or later we're bound to run into someone who has had a good buying experience, a recommenddation would be good, wouldn't it.

Of course, I hadn't thought of club members buying and selling between themselves - could be the way to go, at least initially.

I think I'll get myself along to my local.

If they have any buying tips, I'll post them here.

If you're into Paphs and Phrags (slippers) check out the Eric Young Foundation. They're one of the world's most respected breeders of slippers.

thanks kmarch,
the little tease that is the eric young foundation website seems to be an invite to go along and see for yourself. I found a bit more info elsewhere in a news article, link below for anyone interested:

It's certainly going on my list of things to do, as I suspect it already is for anyone within reach.
