Question wow

Hi every one, I'm Ruth, I wish I found this site sooner. I have free hanging orchids, no bark or whatnot, any advice? I'm new to raising orchids. Once I figure out how to send pics from my phone (no computer),I'll post some. My baby us about 6 to 6 1/2 ft from the bottom of the roots to the top of the fanned leaves. My baby is doing fine w/roots, but doesn't want to bloom yet. I've had it about a year now, I live in Florida, it shouldn't be the temperature, could it? Or do they really need food? Please help, I don't want to kill these gorgeous plants. Thank you!!

I can bet you're talking about a vanda! :P
Somehow, I find it rather strange and perplexing whenever I see vandas being grown without medium. Like mentioned above, they just hang there...HMMM

Hi Ruth! Welcome to the forum. A picture would help a great deal especially if you don't know for sure what type of orchid you have. Sounds like it could be a vanda, and there are lots of growers here from Florida that do grow them. So hopefully once we know wht you have we can help you more.

It sounds like you have a vanda, and yes food ,water, and high light are needed to bloom Vandas.

I water mine at least daily, and try to remember to feed them twice a week. oh and I don't have a heated greenhouse so I bring them inside when the overnight temps are below 50.

If what you have is a vanda, they as often as not grow bare-root. Just hang it somewhere, preferably outside because they take a ton of light (even direct sun, once acclimated) and even more water. Daily. Not sure it's possible to over water a vanda. They also like air movement.

Hi Squishy! I saw your other thread, you could try emailing pics to a host site and then posting the url here?

Anyway, this is a vanda, symmetrical 'V' foliage and roots galore :

And welcome!

De note in your other thread how to post from the site with your cell phone. If you have a newer phone or smart phone that can handle the upgraded flash driver at photobucket you can post from there by clicking on your album, click on the pick pull up menu on phone, click on copy image link. Come back to your thread hit reply opens the box. In the text area click then open phone menu again click paste. Ok your not done yet .. Click and make the line to type blink at the front of the link you just pasted then add this to the front of the link no space between them type then hit subit message and you will have a big pic in the box. I'm sad my phone doesn't support the new flash driver 10 to use photobucket any more so I'm back to the way I posted how to in your other thread
Hope this all helps looking forward to seeing some pics soon
