Is this what I think it is?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what this is? Is it a flower bud or a spike? I have no idea what I'm looking at.

OOps, that's a really bad photo... I'll have to take another one. It's dark and has a kind of dark green appearance with pinky purple speckling...

What's a keiki?...

A keiki is a baby plant that buds off of the parent plant. I think the word is Hawaiian? for 'baby'. Cool!
