sorta nooby repotting ?

so i acquired a bulbophyllum echinolabium right around thanks giving and when i got it it was in a small pot so i put it in a far larger terracotta pot but i wasn't able to afford good mix at the time and just used some old stuff. it seems that the old stuff doesn't drain well. i have recently had the funds to buy new mix and can repot it. but it is putting out new growth and i am leary about repotting it and killing the new growth. let me know what you guys think.

Get it into the new mix asap. I repot my bulbos whenever they need it...regardless of season or timing...and I've never had an issue. Well, ok, I've accidentally broken a couple of new growths off but that was just me being clumsy.

It'll appreciate the fresh medium...definitely.

Don't worry...I'm sure it'll be fine. I've noticed w/most bulbos that they slow down a bit during the Winter months...especially if the light is low and the temps are cool.

It'll appreciate the fresh medium and w/the increased light and warmer temps that come w/Spring...I'm sure you'll see some activity.

BTW -- echino does best w/very bright (but indirect) light.

i have it in the greenhouse under a shade cloth, where all my orchids are. and they all seem to be doing fine. except for dendrochilem tenellum. it was a casualty. but in my defense it was 99% dead when i got it. but everything else is doing good.

I have one of those that I affectionately call "Big Stink". Good luck with yours.
