| Is my Vandae beyond help?
Hello! I am complete newbie to orchids, but I know some about plants in general. Somewhere in the beginning of October I got hold of an orange Vanda. It was very beautiful. Here's a picture: ![]() I was advised to shower it every day, and also nourish it every day. Which I did. Later on, in the end of December, I was away for three weeks and asked my family to water it. When I returned, there was no bloom left. It had fallen off. After one month from the point of my return, the orchid now looks like this: ![]() The remaining leaves will fall off, I guess. I have tenderly felt the stem and discovered that while it is pretty solid at the base, there's a patch of gooey softness in the middle of the stem, at the base of the remaining leaves. I really don't know what to do. My guess is that they watered not only the roots but the entire plant from up above. What can I do? I really, really want it to survive. I currently have a vanda going through this, it started off by turning a brownish yellow like what a banana does when it's over-ripe, from the leaf tip to the stalk of the plant.. It had some kind of centipede infestation but I thought I got it all gone... well it stopped it's strange yellowing and suddenly the one last leaf came out, but it was black on the tip on the stalk side (crown rot) BUT before I pitch the plant, it has one good fat root on it, and green further down the stalk and what looks like it was trying to push a new root out... so I'm gonna give it some time before I decide... I've left vandas in family care and when I got back to it, it was too fat gone. I tried to cut mine off where it was green but it still wouldn't pull through for me... pity because it was about 8' tall... Dont give up on it yet, keep watering the roots but keep that top part dry or make sure it CAN dry quickly if possible. Judging from the pics it looks like it was not watered enough while you were gone. Vandas take LOTS of water, you cannot over water them (well, atleast the hanging basket kind, not so sure about the true potted ones) and they love humidity as well as bright bright light.

U might have insufficient light on this plant. . This colour has some asco blood in it and consider u are quite up north . U can have direct sun on the plant during winter . Soak the plant for 1 hours every day . Don't give the plant direct light during summer .
