Any ideas on the ID of this Cat. alliance? About 9 blooms from the 1 sheath. Purple/crimson flower. Flowering now in our Summer.

Very rich color on this one. I'd say a Catt alliance plant. Wish I could narrow it down for you.
Cheers,
Tony

Tony, I was just googling some photos, and saw this ...Cat. Bowringiana 'Augusta'. The colour looks v. similar especially the lip. What do you think?

Re are so many varietys of hybrids that look almost identical that its impossible to I'd a plant by a pic. Sorr, with out the tag or a vendor it was purchased from and their records its will for ever be a NIOD Catt. Its beautiful though.

Unfort. it was given to me by an aged gentleman. It was his deceased wife's much loved orchid. I split it up for him, it was a huge job. He gave me one cutting, as a thank you. Nothing more about it. But I wondered if it was a Guarianthe Bowringiana?

Something similar to Laeliocattleya (or Cattlianthe) Mrs. W. N. Elkins - Cattleya (Guarianthe) bowringiana x Laelia (Cattleya) purpurata. There is no way to be sure, but the flowers, leaves and pseudobulbs all look right for a combination like that.

It's a hybrid of some kind. As such a reliable ID will be impossible.
