First orchid show was great!

Been to my first show at the local orchid club. Got my name down on their list and will be going to their next monthly meeting

Had quite a few conversations about growing orchids (as you do ) and picked up some tasty tips.

there was no way i was going to leave empty handed of course i purchased a masdevallia, there was a big stall, and i had been talking to the owners about other orchids and they had given me loads of advice, and the mas. flowers just looked amazing.

They told me i have to grow it in a greenhouse, not indoors, as they need constant good humidity. I can provide them this, but it can get cold out there, so i wondered if anyone had any easy cheap ways of giving an orchid those same high humidity levels indoors.

at the moment i am going to settle for a plastic bag over the top but this is abit ugly.

i will post a picture and its full name later, once i've translated it

tom - it's so hard to go to a show and not buy anything. I doubt there are any of us that have managed that one.

I look forward to responses on this thread as I recently purchased 2 little masdevallia and am in the same position as you are. So far so good. Lots of new leaves but thus far no new blooms. Just how much humidity to they need?

Thankyou for the culture notes fred 60-80 humidity is alot, i think i would have trouble providing that in my greenhouse. I would prefer to keep it inside, as i can ensure it gets the temperatures it needs throughout the year, do you reckon a humidity tray and misting daily would be enough?

most of us here in Tassie grow Masd in our orchid houses I dont know of any growers here that grow them inside the house.

If you look at my new orchid house I can grow masd well in there.

If you want to grow the plant inside thats fine also.
