Caring for orchids

Hello and help! At Easter my sisters brought me a beautiful orchid despite the fact that I am the kiss of death for indoor plants! It has survived so far but.............there was a tiny new bud which started to grow after I had received the plant and then it just died and fell off. And yesterday I noticed sap coming from the plant in three places, all where the small branches bend. It is on the kitchen windowsill where it gets the most light. The window above it is sometimes open and it is about 1.5m from the door which is often open. I water it sparingly once a week. Where am I going wrong?

Thanks

Michele

Hello and welcome to the forum. Do you know what kind of orchid you have? Is there a tag in it? Was it in bloom when you received it? If so maybe take a look at the orchid identification thread and see if there's anythign there that looks like it.

Different kinds of orchids require different care so to give the most useful info it's helpful to know what kind of orchid we're talking about.

Cheers

hi and welcome to the forum.

i also think that it would be a good idea if we knew what sort of orchid you are talking about.

As kmarch has asked Quote]Is there a tag in it? Was it in bloom when you received it? If so maybe take a look at the orchid identification thread and see if there's anythign there that looks like it.

As it is hard to tell with out more information.
