Well it depends on your growing conditions. How much light can you provide? What are the temperatures like where you plan to keep the plant? Many people start out with Phalaenopsis and do well with them, but I find that Cattleya and Oncidium (and related intergeneric hybrids) are better suited to my growing environment. Your best bet is to read through culture sheets for various genera, and pick the one that sounds most like the conditions you are able to provide.

champ, I grew up in the central florida area! I moved to SC 2 years ago. I found the easiest plants (well, for me) to grow in Floridas growing conditions are vandas (my profile pic is a vanda) The vandas that hang in baskets are what I have and they are super easy! No issues with repotting pr anything... Just hang them under a tree and make sure they get lots of water and sunshine and they're happy.
