Exclamation Help! my orchids don't like the weather change!

I live in Los Angeles, CA, where the weather is usually 70 degrees F or more during the day, and around 50-60 at night. Well, this week, the weather rapidly changed to low 50s during the day and 30-40s at night. I can no longer keep them on my balcony because I did for one day, and some of the smaller buds have yellowed and are starting to shrivel up. The leaves are fine, and the blooms are fine, but I don't want to risk anymore damage by putting them outside until the weather is better. It's too cold for me to keep my window open at night. What should I do? Please help!

Well you could bring them inside your home for a couple of days.......what kinds of orchids do you have?

If Cymbidiums and mini catts you should be ok but if you have more tropical plants then even putting them in your garage until the weather returns to normal should be ok.

For Phals. def bring them indoors if it's getting that cold, opening a window should be ok provided there is a little distance between the sill and the plants...

Hi Phals are tropical plants and if temp gets below a comfitable minium of around 65 F, Trouble

50F or below spells death to them

Thanks. My babies are all inside, and I have a little fan nearby to give them air movement, for the time being. If anyone has any better suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm with you. I just spent my afternoon bringing all my plants in, except my masdevallia. I had no idea I had so many, I almost ran out of places to put them all.
I did notice some damage on one of them so I hope it survives.

BluPeaches, I hope your babies are ok. I'm worried that mine are really uncomfortable with the rapid up and down temperatures. Today's forecast for Los Angles says the high will be 78 and the low 50; while Saturday's high will be 61 and raining. :/
