I hope, I hope, I hope!

It's too early to tell... but being a convicted phal killer, I have finally caught on to how to really care for these guys (Or.... atleast to just keep them alive) These are pics from 3 different NOID (Lowe's) phals that are all at the same time throwing out 'nubbies'... too early to call spikes yet... but I sure am keeping my fingers crossed as I have not been able to keep one alive long enough to see its next bloom season... just thought I would share cause I'm so excited and happy that these guys are growing leaves and roots like crazy all summer... now lets hope that these are spikes since we have had a temperature drop....

The flower pics are what two of the phals are... the third one is a mystery because I managed to get the plant at a discount at lowe's since it didn't have it's blooms anymore!

Hi Vanda, Looks to early to tell for me. Could be a spike, or roots. What you should be happy about is that something is happening, be it roots or spike. You must be providing what the plant needs to promote root or spike. Good growing and please send more photos as the spikes? roots? progress. Nancy

In the second picture there are 2 roots, no spike. In the first pic, it could be a spike, and the 3rd and 4th are too blurry.

Yes I know the 2nd picture has a root. I just couldn't tell if it was the start of maybe a spike under it. Pics in a few days..

Heres some updated pics....... The one little nubby under the root is in fact, just another root... the other nubbis still look a little pointy and have a strange tip on them (if that makes any sense) almost node like...

Now they all look like spikes! Congrats!!! Yep, spikes have the telltale "mitten" shape.

First two are my white and purple spotted phal, the 3rd is my 'mystery' phal, and the last is my yellow/green one. All NOIDS, I can only go by color. I beleive I may have two spikes on the 'mystery'. But I figured I would post an update.... I also am happy to say I passed a math test tonight, and I also have managed to save not 1, not 2, but 3 (and hopefully 4) little NOID orchids that were almost garbage can bound. Happy to say with careful observation, they are now putting up NEW leaves. I bought a little tiny wire caged ran for $10 that blows on them... I do believe that has helped them from root rot. I'll water them, let them sit outside in the sun, and bring them in at night under their little fan to dry that moss out. I've never seen turn around like this with such a simple object. I may go back and get another little fan!

But I figured I would update on my spikes! I'm so excited to see them happy enough to bloom for me!

Congrats Vanda!! I'm a newbie, and my first phal (purchased in Feb.) has been growing roots and leaves all summer, and now she has a new spike. I'm so excited, watching it grow everyday, so I know exactly how you feel. Keep up the good work!!

thanks!! the spikes in the green phal are growing mega crazy! I'll have to update the pictures in a few days... I kinda like seeing other peoples 'progress' pictures they post! And yes thank goodness for the geeks who understand how excited we get when we get new spikes or how we revive a plant that was just inches away from a garbage can!

Way to go I am glad I have found people that get excited as I do over growing spikes, or leaves, or roots. Congratulations
