Orchid greenhouse advice needed....

I want to build an orchid greenhouse kit in the future and need advice as to best brands/models to go with. I plan not to spend more than $5/6K and prefer gas heat and an energy efficient greenhouse; thanks for any advice!

Hi Newbie and welcome to the forum. I have a greenhouse and have learned allot from my mistakes. First, how cold does it get there. If it drops into the 30's/40's be sure and get a greenhouse with tripple wall construction panels for insulation. You can always add shade cloth for the warmer months. Also, purchase a greenhouse that you can easily install temperature regulated roof vents.( they make ones that are regulated by wax). My greenhouse has lexan panels that are ridged (wavy) and I cannot install the vents. A real bummer when it comes to venting out the heat. Also, be sure and have a temperature controlled vent in the peak. This can be electric on a thermostat. You will need a fan for air circulation and a misting system and heating too. Seems complicated, but can be done on a tight budget. Check out Charlies Greenhouse on the web for sizes and models. They sell all the extras that I was talkiing about. You will love your greenhouse, well worth the time and investment. Many companies make greenhouses. Surf the web and compare. If you would like a photo of my set up pm me. I bought mine through Santa Barbara Greenhouses. I am not that thrilled. Complicated directions and a few pieces of wood have warped. Have fun and let us know how the search goes. Nancy

I think you are looking for something bigger than mine based on your price range but my hubby bought me a Rione (?) It is 8.5 x 8.5 with poly carbonate panels. I have to put shade cloth on it in the summer due to the heat. It is not in full sun but gets a direct hit mid afternoon. I run two fans. In the winter it gets a bit cramped if the temps drop but it has been great. I use a small electric heater with a thermostat that they sent with it. The instructions were very good and it was packed very well.

Good luck with your project, with that budget building a good one shouldn't be a problem.

Take a look at Turner Greenhouses in Goldsboro NC. They currently do not offer a multiwall polycarbonate covering (I highly suggest that's what you use), but they will sell you a kit without a covering, so you can add it yourself (that's what I did).
