E have used them as pots (1/2 shell) by drilling holes for dranage in them. But I've not heard any follow up's on how well they did. One problem with cocomut shells/ husks is the salts. You need to do a lot of soaking to get the high sea salt concentrations lowered in them. It is a lot of work and time soaking rinsing and soaking and then still not knowing if the concentrations are low enough to not kill the orchids. So it would be a trial and error or maybe get lucky situatin I'm my opinion. So I jsut reccomend not trying with a prized favorite orchid with this. Good luck!!

I've never heard or seen anyone here mount on the shell, but on its husk yes even myself. I use this method especially when I'm not sure how to grow one particular sp or when I've no spare hard wood. So far it's been successful. Emmaye was right that cocunut husk need to be soaked before used. I soak the husk at least for 3 days, change the water everyday.
