| Repotted 4 two days ago now all leaves have a light yellow boarder.
A couple days ago I repotted 4 phals. Two from an orchid miracle gro mix that had bad root tot, and two from all spag that had a little root rot. They were all put in bark that had been soaked 24 hours. Now ALL of the leaves on ALL the plants are developing an even light yellow border around the top of the leaves. It is like you took a marker and traced around each leaf and that is where they are turning yellow. I am so upset please tell me what this is!

I don't think my camera can pick up on the color difference. Maybe later I can move them and try to get a better pic. But it is exactly as it sounds, just lightening all around the edges of the leaves and very uniform about 3-4 mm wide, the top leaves are the worst. You can almost see a straight line where it begins and ends. I just did bark, and they are back in the same place they were before repot.

For what it is worth, in my case it seems that every time I repot a phal ( I have repotted 22 over the last two mos.) the oldest leaf at the bottom turns yellow and drys up, I just pull it off when it is ready. The rest of the plant grows strong and it has never been a problem. I hope this will be the case with you. |

The only time time when I noticed a yellow border on leaves was with my Psychopsis. It was shipped in the middle of winter, and when I unpacked it I noticed the oldest leaf had a very thin yellow border (maybe only 1/8" wide). Otherwise, the plant looked great and has been growing very well. The yellow border disappeared after a few weeks. My only guess is that the border could be a reaction to stress

I don't think it got water in it. I was very careful and even gave it is little upside down jiggle, and cleaned them pretty well with q-tips after potting. But I guess there is always the possibility. It is seen on all the leaves just darkest at top. I decided to water them again yesterday because the bark was bone dry to me even though it had only been a couple days since repot. I thought the bark would hold water a little better than that, and I did soak it.

See if you can post some pics so some of the more experienced folks can take a look and see if they can help you. Maybe its not a bad thing, but the pics sure would help.

If your orchids have had problems with root rot, you might want to let it completely dry out in between waterings. Make certain the pot feels light, or use a skewer to make certain the middle and bottom of the pot have dried. Bark can be very dry on the surface and wet in the middle. Some people use upside-down net pots or styrofoam to avoid the soggy middle problem. Often yellow leaves are a sign the plant is too wet. This may be from the past culture, though. Good luck, leafmite |
