More Questions from Glitter PHAL #2

Here's another Phal I bought #2

What about the whilting bottom flowers? What caused this? One flower was already wilted when I bought it, but now one more is wilted this morning.

This Phal does seem WAY over crowded as well especially the roots. There are also two different plants in one pot and there are two flower stalks on each plant.

You will note many posts referring to wilting phal flowers. They are infamous for wilting prematurely due to a number of potential causes - change of environment usually - cool drafts, stuffy no air movement conditions, change in humidity, etc. They generally do better in places where the entire spiking and blooming process occurs in the same place. For example I can bring a phal into my office that is currently in near full bloom and it will wilt and sulk and drop all its flowers in two weeks. A phal that sets a spike and grows out in my office and blooms out in the same exact conditions will last for three months. Go figure. Apparently they just need time to adjust to different locations? Some people will not even by phals in bloom for this very reason......

The wilting flowers are nothing to worry about. They're either fading naturally or, like the buds, have dropped because of a change in their environment. Nothing at all to worry about (although I admit it is dissapointing).

All the big wild root growth is good. The roots can stay outside the pot if you have enough humidity (which home growers rarely have) or after the plant finished flowering you can repot and use a slightly larger pot. do not use a big pot though, one only just large enough to accomodate the roots. Using too large a pot with Phals leads to root rot. Look in your other thread for more on this.
