My private supplier is missing

Hi, I'm new to this board and to the online orchid world in general. I find myself in a bind. I have used a "personal shopper" in the past to collect plants for me. unfortunately, he has been missing now for a month and I have to accept the reality that he either ditched me with my cash or he has met an unfortunate end. I ask this board if there are respectable places to purchase orchids from Myanmar or Cambodia? I would prefer to know the dealer. I refuse to purchase through Ebay. Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "collect" but I sure hope you aren't part of the illegal wild collecting that happens. If that is how your previous person obtained plants for your collection then given the fact that the person is not a legitimate vendor...nor responsible...no offense but you should expect to be taken at some point.

There are many legitimate orchid growers/vendors around the world. Your location lists a yacht...where is this yacht? Are you near Cambodia/Myanmar? Or are you just looking for orchids from those regions?

Oh my buyer was very responsible. In my line of work one must be careful to maintain clearances. I actually try to spend most of my time in St. Kitts. What websites would you recommend? Thanks,
Don O.

I was interested in how you grow your orchids on a yacht. The salt air and all. One of my requirements for retirement will be dirt. I will have to have a garden spot. So our current beach condo is not a permanant solution. Plus I've learned the politics of condos is ungodly and we also live right above the condo commando!!.
And now we have a (little, size compliant) dog. She hates dogs. We took him over for a visit and he did good. But he got feisty around 11:30 p.m. and his little feet went "whappity whapity" back and forth across the tile..Oh, can't wait for our northern neighbors to return.
But I really digress. Sorry.
I was asking how you grow in salt air conditions. And I envy your freedom on the seas.

You can call me slow this morning Rachel but I don't understand what this means...

Don -- I'm very glad to hear everything was on the up and up. I am not personally familiar w/vendors that could be/would be shipping to St Kitts but we have a lot of members and some of them might have some suggestions.
You could also check out our "recommended vendor" thread to see if there is something there. http://www.orchidgeeks.com/forum/gen...endations.html

BTW -- I too am really interested in how you're growing on a yacht. Wouldn't mind seeing some pics if possible.

Thanks to all the responses, my work tends to force me to travel extensively between NY andand DC. I rely on good friends to keep my plants healthy and i be the first to admit it is not easy or cheap to keep my three plants happy on the boat. But I don't mind paying for my obsession / hobby. Most of my plants reside in my sunroom in DC. So I can ship the plants there.
Thanks,
Don

Hello,
We may be able to direct you to reputible vendors but if you could tell us what genera you are collecting then we can point you in the right direction
