Cleaning leaves

I cleaned my den's leaves the other day with a fresh cut lime and washed it off with water...Bad move? What can we use to clean the leaves with?

I just hose the leaves off with water from time to time. Just do it at a time when they'll dry reasonably quickly and not sit overnight or for days with water in all the places where it collects.

I make a week solution of white vinegar and water(1 part vinegar to 5 parts water). Using a paper towel, I gently rub the leaves clean.

Has anybody tried using beer ? I heard it works, or maybe it is one of the myths....

Found the following from Big Leaf Orchids (for phals). Have tried the diluted juice and it makes the leaves nice and shiny :

Bi-weekly - Wipe both surfaces of the leaves with soap water (2 drops of dish washing detergent mix with 1 cup of water). Cleaning leaves help with removing insects on leaves.

Monthly - Wipe both surfaces of the leaves with diluted juice (1 teaspoon orange juice mix with 1 cup of water). This helps removing the buildup of minerals deposit on leaves. The appearance of your plant will improve greatly with shiny leaves.
