help with new orchid

Hi Everyone - please excuse my terminology as I am new to growing orchids! I have an orchid that has yellow flowers that look like thin pointy stars. The flowers grow in a row up the spike of the plant. What kind is it? The green base is starting to get wrinkles on it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi and welcome to the forum

My first thought is with out seeing the plant and with what you have said you plant sounds like a form of Oncidum.

Some pseudobulb are seen as normal with slight wrinkles but this could also mean a lack of water.

From your description I assume that is an Oncidium alliance, but I might be wrong. A picture would help to determine more precisely at least the type of your plant.Please post a picture of yours, or a link to a similar, from the Photo Gallery.
Since different types of orchids have different needs, is necessary to know what it is.

Thank you Fred and Aniko - I found a picture of it in the orchid picture gallery here. It is a spider orchid. I water it once a week. But I'm going to try the skewer method I read here, maybe it needs more water.

i find the older bulbs on my oncidium sweet sugar are quite wrinkled whatever. the new bulb is lovely, plump and a nice green colour

May I encourage us to use the genus and species names rather than the common names when assisting with an identification of some kind? Common names can cause confusion. In this case both Brassia and Caldenia are commonly referred to as spider orchids but their culture couldn't be more dissimilar. I believe the plant in question here is Brassia and it looks like everyone has picked up on that but it could be confusing to newbies.
