Talking mini phal and an oncidium

So I was looking for a different orchid than what I have (6 phals, 2 dens, 1 oncidium and 1 catt in ICU) I went to my favourite nursery. Tell me how I did:

I came home with a CPTRA sydney smith green monkey - I got it for 1/2 price because it was not in bloom. I figured for $19.98 it was a steal.

I also bought a phal lioulin sweet. So cute and she smells nice.

Any advice on how to care for them? I figure the mini phal I would treat as my other phals. Oncidium likes the same space as phals?

I'm kinda running outta space in my little office. This is the only room they'll grow because of the east window. What do I tell hubby?

Wow - good haul. That mini-phal is adorable, and I LOVE scented Phals. I am going to have to look for that one now. Phal. Lioulin Sweet now on

Oh - your Green Monkey is an awarded plant, so the tag should read Cptra. Sydney Smith 'Green Monkey' AM/AOS. At the time of its award it had 80 blooms and 20 buds on three spikes, all coming off the same bulb. That one will be a WOW when it bloms!

Tell Hubby? Um, tell him you need a greenhouse...

Dendian,
I feel better already.

As for the green monkey, it doesn't have AM/AOS at the end of its name. Is that okay?? But it does have a number preceding the name. (G274-A)

Uhm, 80 blooms? I better just get rid of this computer and make way for a big plant.

So pretty!!! What is your favourite nursery? I live in Ontario too, in the Niagara region.

Carkin,
I shop at Sheridan Nurseries. There's a few around. But my favourite one is in Mississauga because they always have different orchids. So I go in and
Always end up buying something.

You may want to consider trying Tolumnia. They are an adorable mini that don't take up much room at all. They are easy to grow as long as you have good air movement and do not let them dry out.

I just love the Phal, yes I admit it I'm a Phalaholic and yes just treat it like any other Phal, the Onc. I can't help with, I'm fairly new as well and am not familiar with it. As far as the room problem goes, tell hubby you need a greenhouse Good luck

Greenhouse sounds like a great idea. Do you think the kids would mind if I got rid of the trampoline and swings?

I need a bigger backyard.

tjlorchids, tolumina sounds interesting, although I've never seen them.

Hmmmm, I think the Kids might get mad at the 'Chids if you did that.

But there is always a way to make more room - put shelves on the window for example.. metal ones with clear plastic humidity trays to let some light in.... You could also get into mounted orchids and then hang them on a bar across the window (I did that)... When there's an Orchid - there's a Way!

Aww, what an adorable mini Phal. Fragrance too, that's really nice. I just got an Onc. alliance plant, (Alcra. Pacific Nova 'Pacific Heights'), and had to ask its cultural requirements, 'cause I was basically clueless. I'm a catt/phal/dend guy, mainly!
Good going on a nice haul!
Cheers,
Tony

Beautiful little mini! Didn't know they could be fragrant I love my minis. I have 4. One is in rehab. She wasn't in very good shape when I got her. My Sogo Yenlin has a new leaf! I'm stilll new & don't really find them difficult. Onc. don't seem too difficult either. Granted I just got mine (2 plus, 3 intergeneric) but they are thriving & putting out new growth. Good luck with yours!

I was looking around on the web and CPTRA is short for carpentara....not like I know what that means.

Not much info on this baby, but I think I saw on an ebay listing that it won an award?? I'm not quite up on things like that. I'm still an amateur. I'm amazed at some of the knowledge of some members on this site. So maybe someone can fill me in on any info on this orchid.

BTW preceding its name, the green monkey also has a number (G274-A)

Carpenterara is a cross of Bapistonia x Ondontoglossum x Oncidium - it appears to be a "relatively" recent cross as I don't see any made before 1987.. and there are only 6 registered ones.

The numbers are the breeder's numbers - and have nothing to do with the name. The correct tag for your plant would include the AM/AOS award - even if it wasn't put on your tag originally. You can write it on if you like.
