fertilizer

Hey guys, I just bought my second orchid. this one is a phal, the first is an odm. Does anyone have a suggestion for a fertilizer or plant food? I've never really delt with this stuff before except for what I give to my bonsai trees. it says 7-9-5 on the front. would this work? if so how often should I use it?
Thanks,
Chuck

7-9-5 is fine for orchids at the rate of 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per gallon. Orchids require less fertilizer than other plants similar to your bonsai. Too strong a solution will burn roots.

Thanks Jerry, and by the way thanks also for the calender update (got it last night).
Using my 7-9-5 formula, should it be done once a month?

It depends on your watering. During the hot summer in Florida, I water every day (or it rains every day) and then I would fertilize every week and occasionally twice a week on the basis that after 3-6 hours of rain there is no fertilizer left.

If you water once a week then 1 or 2 a month is about right. Too much will give you salt build up.
