Let me introduce myself

Hi,
I'm Jerry Meola and I am the moderator for this forum.

I believe any question deserves an answer. I will be replying direct to you not refering you to search somewhere else. I do not care if the same question is asked 20 times, they will all get an answer.

As to my experience, I own and operate a commercial Orchid nursery. I have about 130 orchids in my personal collection and I feel the same way about them as you do about any number you own. I lose orchids every day in the commercial greenhouses, it is just business when you are handling thousands, but i hurt just as much as you if I lose a personal one.

That said, never believe everything I say or everything you read here or elsewhere. The advice may not be appropriate for your conditions. I welcome people to express a view opposite to mine. I learn from that as well. Growing orchids is a constant learning experience.

Welcome and use this forum often.

Hi Jerry,
I am new here but not to orchids. I have about 100 and am learning everyday. That is what makes it so much fun. When I have success well I
am thrilled . Actually, today I just found a spike on a Paph. Shin Yi's Pride. It is the first bloom I will have on this and I must have looked at it a dozen times since I found it. I love to learn and this seems like it will be a great site.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have about 10 orchids. My question tonight is how do you get the plant to grow those healthy thick roots that grow above ground? When I get them with the healthy root, the roots dry and die. Plant is alive, I'd like to know if I'm watering too much or spray/mist them with water to get that root growing?
