Another vanda question.

I purchased several vandas about 3 or 4 months ago. Unfamiliar with vandas, I potted them in a plastic pot. Reading from the forum and viewing pictures of vanda re-potting, I notice that people are planting them in plastic baskets. Is if typical for vandas to be potted in baskets rather than in pots and should I consider repotting in a basket now? Thank you. Bittersweet

In general Vanda do not like their roots confined. Most people grow them in baskets. The disadvantage of baskets is the exposed roots need to be watered often.

Cynthia has had great success with growing them in pots. One of my Hawaiian suppliers also goes certain hybrids in pots.

I think it takes a little more effort to learn the technique of pots, but clearly it can work.

A healthy Vanda can be grown in a pot but is Not preferred. Should you notice a failure to thrive--remove immediately and place in basket with no media. This growing method requires frequent watering.
