Broken Orchid

I just repotted my orchid to a larger pot and while doing this my stem with the buds broke off. It snapped right at a joint. Is there anything I can do to salvage my buds? It has about a dozen buds that were about to bloom and I would be so disappointed if there wasn't anything I could do. Everything else is so healthy and green and fresh. What can I do?

Hi RachaelElaine,

Welcome to the forum. Sadly, you did lose the buds, the plant is still safe. But the happy news is, go out and buy one to replace it, so you can enjoy flowers anyway.

We have all done the same. It goes with the territory.

Yep...I've done it. This past weekend when I was watering, I dropped my Den unicum...and broke off 2 of the 3 little buds that had just popped out.

As mentioned, put the spike in a vase and enjoy the flowers. The plant will grow a new one next year.

Enjoy them in a glass of water and hope the plant really wants to bloom.
They could either send a subspike or even another spike if it wants.
