keiki question

My little keiki is still going strong and looks good, except for one minor thing. It had a little mini leaf on it, and the other day it fell off. I dont know if my little girl broke it off accidently when she was looking at it, or if it just fell off. It has two roots on it, about an inch long, and the round cane part still looks good with no ill effects since it happened. Should I worry, or are they pretty hardy?

I was also wondering, when I was looking it over, the cane it is on at the bottom it is turning brown and starting to get soft. Is it because the keiki is draining out the life from it as well? This is my first keiki and I kinda want it to do alright.

usually turning brown implies fungus/bacteria infection. with the recent extreme wet weather. This make matter worst. So you might want to try fungicides.

if the cane that is hosting the keiki is turning brown, it is time to pot the plant on its own as it can no longer recieve sustenance from the mother plant....hopefully you have enuf roots....gl

The leaf that fell off, was it the only one? If not, I wouldn't worry too much.

Was the leaf that fell off an older leaf or a new, growing leaf? If it was older, not a problem in and of itself. I'd be more concerned that the cane is dying.

To answer all the questions. Yes the leaf was the only one on it. It was super small. I did repot my keiki tonight because I have a little clay pot, and I put it in some moss. If it makes it, then it will just be a plus, if not, Im not too worried either. I dont know what kind of Den. it is other than its just a hybrid. I have gotten 6 orchids so far, and I only know the name of two of them, but its a general name because they had a tag on them that I could read. I dont read japanese or speak it, so I dont know what kind of orchids I have other than general ideas. I doubt its a fungus because of all the rain we have been getting. My 'chids are inside creatures and have been since I got them. Hopefully it will take off and do fine since its in its own little pot now with moss. At this point only time can tell. Thanks for the advice everyone.
