new to orchids

Hi I am new to growing orchids and wondered what to do. I have a Phal I got for a gift. It was in bloom with lots of buds some of which opened, since then I noticed the spikes are turning brown and the blooms and buds are falling off. I do not know what to do next. Please help

If you can post pics, it would help. If the spike is going brown, it is all done with blooms. Have you pulled it out of the pot and looked at the roots? What is it potted in? How often do you water? What are your temps like? Lots of help to be had, but we need more info.
