Bought a mop head.

Do I have your attention? Laughing with you. I bought an orchid called Cirr. medusae Mellow Yellow and am looking for more information on it. It was under the category of "species," which I believe are considered unique and un-to-themselves. It is called a mop head - a euphamism I believe because of how it looks. My understanding is that it is mature size.
When it came, it had two leafs, was potted on green spagnum moss, had a number of fragile roots that were more out of the pot than in and a growth starting on the side. The growth has subsequently died but a new growth has started heartier than the first. The leaves are growing from a pseudo-bulb. The only thing I read about it is that it grows well with phalenopsis. How and where do I find information about this plant? Right now it is growing under heavy lights which may not necessarily be good. The only thing that it said was that it grows well with phalenopsis. So where might I get information? Winterwhite

The orchid may be being renamed to Bulbophyllum medusae.

There are many fanatic growers of Bulbophyllum. some people dedicate a majority of their collection to them.

I do not raise them but friends who do grow them to specimen size in shallow baskets (18 inchs wide 2-3 inches deep). They seem to respond to just good general orchid care.

Jerry,
Thank you for your info. I feel I have something more to deal with now. I think my problem at the moment is being attracted to the exotic. I need to still to the basics for awhile. Looking forward to warmer weather and the purchase of a new orchid! My many thanks. Winterwhite
