Sideways Phal?

I just got home from visiting my parents house, and another flower opened up on one of my phals. But it's sideways... It hasn't been moved for 3 weeks, and before this one, two others have opened up normally. Any ideas as to why?

The bottom leaves aren't looking good, either. They were like that when I got the plant, but didn't notice until I got it home. I'm thinking maybe adding some higher-N fert might help it.

I'm currently not fertilizing it yet, but I just got some Grow More 6-30-30.

Any suggestions are appreciated

As to the flower, maybe it will turn on its own. And as to the leaves, the standard first question is did you look at the roots?

It's not uncommon for blooms to open in different directions, the lower leaves appear to be on their way out. And as adding a fert mix to your watering regiment is recomended it will not correct the current issue and would suggest nature take it's course with them. The other leaves appear to be in good shape and would focus on keeping them healthy by providing the plant optimal culture.
Lovely blooms btw...

I have not checked out the roots. I was going to repot it after the blooms fade

It doesn't usually hurt a phal to gently pull it out of the pot to take a look. Many of us repot them while in bloom. I would at least take a peek.

Using a high nitrogen fertilizer on a plant when it wants to bloom may put an end to the blooming, as nitrogen tells the plant to grow leaves, not blooms. Wait until blooming is over to use the high nitrogen. The 6-30-30 would be okay, though. Remember, weekly, weakly.

i've got a phal type den that always puts out beautifully symetrical rows of flowers--except for at least *one* coming out upside down. -sigh- what can you do?
