Newbie from Wisconsin

I am the newbie to orchid growing, and although i do well wih my plants in Wisconsin, orchid growing is totally new to me.A neighbor here in Naples,Fl. gave me an orchid 2 yrs ago and i wired it into the mangroves off my deck, and after 2 years,it finally bloomed. After the flowers drop off,do i cut it back to the roots, not that far back,or leave it alone.I will attempt to send pic,and am not even sure what kind it is.thanks for any help,i am looking forward to adding more orchids in the mangroves. Bryan

You can cut the spent flower spike back to the base - do not cut any canes off. They provide energy and life to the plant as a whole.

welcome

I came from Wisconsin 2 years ago and can't get enough of orchids since. This is a great forum to get info and exchange pictures. Hope you are enjoying the warm climate and sunny skies.

We lived in West Bend on Little Cedar Lake and lived for awhile in Richfield. I do miss the hills and lakes of Wisconsin.

To you who may be missing Wisconsin, we just finished with two weekends of high winds, snow, rain and ice. The central part of the state with 12" or more last weekend. I suggest you stay where you are until????
I'm from SW corner of the state and we were somewhat spared. We vacation in July each year in St. Germaine. My relatives said they have a considerable amount of snow as well.

Long way from Australia to go for A drink.

But I'll keep it in mind next time I'm in the States.

Brian do you know the Ryans from Ryan Plg & Htg in St. Germaine? He's my uncle. They just retired last fall.

Hi Gary Stop on to the 19th Hole Golf course and Sports Bar on hwy 70 and say hi to Bill the next time you are in St. Germaine. He is the bartender there, and still a Cubs fan which razz him about.I accidently sent his reply to a fellow named Anton in Austrailia who thought it was a long way to go for a drink, but would keep it in mind.
