first time on site

I found this site by accident. A friend asked me if I could identify an orchid she just bought with no identification. She sent me two photos and I can't identify it. I did a search for orchid identification and found your site. I have been
growing orchids for several years on shelves and windowsills in our Brooklyn home, mostly Phals., Paphs., Oncidium etc. I look forward to participating in some of the forums. This looks like a very informative site.
I wondered if anyone could identify this orchid for my friend Janet. Thank you.

First, Welcome! What a lovely orchid. Unfortunately, without an ID tag there really isn't any way to find out the exact cultivar/species/hybrid. Someone will more than likely come along and be able to tell you the genus, though.

It looks like some kind of Spathoglottis but thats about all I will be able to tell you. Like Krpot said there really isnt' a way to find out the exact name of this particular orchid.

Welcome to Geeks btw.

Shann~

Shann's right, it's a Spathoglottis of some kind but as these have been extensively hybridized (with no records kept and with few hybrids registered) for the garden trade, as the others have said, it won't be possible to give a more specific ID. At least knowing it is a Spathoglottis though will help you find out what kind of culture it needs.

Welcome to the geeks.

Even without an ID the orchid is very pretty.

Thank you...

I wrote a reply and it disappeared. I hope you're not getting two. I appreciate all your help. It was unbelievable...I didn't know if I would get any. My friend
was very happy to learn what plant this is.
I hope I can someday contribute something beside questions.
Hope everyone on this site has a happy holiday.
Thanks again.

Thank you...

I came back to this site today because I wanted to refer a friend who has her first orchid. She already has a reply to her question.
I noticed that I had another reply to my question from Brooke. I'm sorry it took so long to thank you. I didn't realize there were more replies.
Glad you like my Redbear...I see that you have two beautiful dogs.

I have to come back more often...when I was on earlier today started exploring
and got lost in a discussion about Miracle Gro orchid mix...which I tried and did not like.

I will be posting a question tomorrow re a pest visiting and spreading around my plants.
