It looks like a Cymbidium.

I am not an expert. I saw a few cymbidiums yesterday. Yours looks very much like them, except for the colour.

I agree, Cymbidium is most probably correct, leaf structure and flowers match very well thanks to all for help!

No doubt about it being a Cymbidium. I don't know of many all-white Cymbidiums. Most whites have some colour in the lips or a blush or something. It could possibly be Cymbidium Pure Snow. The clone I have is Cymb. Pure Snow 'Destiny' and is a reasonably common all-white Cymbid.

Cymbidiums like it warm and wet when they're growing, a cool snap in Autumn is necessary to initiate flowering. Less water in winter when they're not doing anything. Where are you located? In California (USA) and Victoria (AUS) you can grow these outdoors with minimal attention.

Cheers,

-Kevin

Hi again

my cymbidium is all-white, no colouring whatsoever on any parts of the flowers..

i'm actually located in Finland, and have heard from local "orchinists", that you can keep some orchids outdoors during summer. here in Finland it gets quite warm during the summer, generally temp. is ranging betw. 23-30 celcius degrees during the day. this warm period lasts about 3 months, so not that long... unfortunately some have mentioned that Cymbidium in particular would be very cold-tolerant, but i don't think she'd like it outside during spring or fall, when it can get quite cold. at the moment i'm not watering the plant that much, but spraying with natural water (have gotten creative and taken some snow and melted it)

well, hope that everything goes well during this winter time, and my beauty can enjoy Finnish summer time in few months

When I lived in Michigan I melted snow in a big tub and when it was room temperature I used it to water my orchids. They loved it. It was like rainwater.

I remembered another all-white Cymbidium: Cymb. Sarah Jean 'Ice Cascade'. It has smaller flowers and the inflorescence is usually pendant instead of upright.

jii, does your Cymbidium bloom for you? If it does, i wouldn't change anything. Again, back when I lived in Michigan people would put their Cymbidiums outside in the summer, and leave them out until it started getting cool. The cool initiates their blooming.

Happy Growing Everyone!

-Kevin
