Question do orchid flowers root?

hi! I just got an Phal as a wedding gift, but I don't know how to care for it. I took it outside with me today for some sun (now I'm reading the forum... I guess direct sun isn't great) anyway the wind knocked it over, the spike broke and three flowers went with it.
The orchid seems mature... the spike is really long (hence, it's top heavy and tips easily) and the plant has lots of roots already overflowing from the pot.
Is there anything I can do to save these flowers other than watch them wilt?
Do orchid flowers root the way some other flowers & plants do?
Thanks!

Put your broken stem in a vase of water - they will not last as long as on the plant, but you might be surprised how long they do last. Clip the flower spike remainder just above a node - you may get a secondary spike right away that will have more flowers - not quite as many or as large as the originals probably - but close, and still gorgeous. Another option is to cut the spike totally off and hope for another spike to come from the base of the plant. I had an orchid last spring that had two spikes that the flowers wilted on real fast because it got hot and stuffy when the air conditioner went out. I cut the spikes off at the base and it immediately shop up another spike. It just plain wanted to bloom. Roots growing out of the pot are normal - aerial roots. In nature they grow on trees and all of the roots are growing all over or clinging to the bark of the tree. No, flowers do not root. Occasionally you might get little leaves growing on the flower spike after flowering. It will eventually grow roots and when big enough you can remove it for a clone of the parent. Good luck and enjoy! mike
