Leaves + wiry roots = ?

So my mom is more obsessed with orchids than I am, and she started buying a bunch last year. Unfortunately, she never found the Geeks! Her phal NOIDS were still packed in sphag, and sopping wet.

I brought home two that seemed the worst off - one had no greenery but seemed to have three roots. It also doesn't have any sort of crown, and one of the roots close to the crown seems to have some fungus or mold. I figure that one's a goner.

The other one, however, and the one in question, is a very sad guy. It has three tiny leaves, dark green but firm, and no juicy roots anywhere to be found. More like just nerves than anything else. My brain thinks that something still must be feeding the plant to keep its leaves looking ok...so maybe there's a chance?

I currently have it soaking in water, hoping to see some signs of life or recuperation. What do you geeks think? Has anyone seen a plant survive root rot to see another day? Shall I plant it to see what happens?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

trim the rotten bad roots off....pot it up with a skewer beside it to hold it upright and still in the pot...use coarse bark with charcoal or some such medium.....water it every 5-7 days depending on your circumstances...and pray....it might decide to send out a couple roots if there is still life in the crown and leaves.....i have had gl with rootless plants in the past....it might not hurt to place a plastic bag loosely over the plant to hold in humidity.....gl
