| I got a blooming Blc.Edisto with 9 pseudo bulbs in a single row, all of them having its leaf. when the bloom was gone in October I divided /re-potted it. I cut off the last 3, with one living root and potted up. Shortly after, a bud appeared. The bigger part of the rhizome, with 6 pseudo-bulbs (having already a bud at the base of the third youngest ps.bulb) developed a lot of new roots and a second bud at the oldest ps.bulb. The roots keep on growing beautifully, but I can't see any new growth from the youngest ps.bulb, and all the other buds are stagnant. Is that OK, just I'm short of patience...or something is going wrong ? Aniko. |

| Well if you are having a lack of patience with these results, you may have problems in the future. A normal October division, would have NO buds, NO new growth, and maybe NO new roots this quick. The general growing pattern of Cattleya are that you will not get growth or buds out of old pseudobulbs. All new growth comes from the leading rhizome edge. All new buds develop on the newest growth. Edisto is a fast growing Cattleya and mine are quick to recover as was yours. Other species may go dormant for most of a year after division, especially the back bulb portion.
