When is the time to..

cut a keiki off a plant? I've had two growing on one of my Miniature Dendrobium's. This one is about 3.5" tall now, and the other one is about 1.5" tall

i usually do mine during the growing season. so long as there are enough roots to support the transplant, you can break off/cut the keiki and repot it in a new container. in normally wait till there is a good root structure in place before doing so, and by that, i mean a good root network for the keiki has to be in place.

good luck and keep us posted!

The longer you let the mother plant take care of them, the stronger they will grow and the better plants they'll be when you separate them.

I usually wait until there are 3+ leaves, and 3-4 roots, that are about 1-2 inches (with active root tips) to ensure fast establishment into the medium on its own

i wait till they are like 5-6 inches tall and plenty of roots...then they are able to withstand the transplant with ease and make new plants quickly....gl

Another option is to leave the keiki on the mother plant, it makes for a bushier display.
