New Root on my Mini Phal (or is it a SPIKE?)

This mini phal was my first orchid ever.
It was in full bloom when I got it back in May.
I'm guessing this is a root. I've never seen a root begin.
My wishful thinking says its kinda pointing upward, doesn't that mean it could be a spike?
Either way I am very happy as while i've seen this little guy bust out two leaves in the short time I've had it i've never seen a new root.
Thoughts?

It looks like a root to me. I have two phals that are growing new roots and they look just like that when they start out and then as they get longer you start seeing the silvery part.

It's a cute little phal!

Yes, I agree it's a root. That's good, too, of course.

A spike will always come from between the leaves, while roots can come from there or other places on the stem. A spike also tends to have a little pointed "hook" on the end, while roots tend to be smooth-tipped.

Awesome! As you can see it needs roots as some of the older ones have dried up.
But i think i have finally found my rhythm with the watering can.

Its a root.
You can tell because it is round, and not a mitten shape. Most phal spikes have and overlap of the skin on the first node, which makes it look like a mitten

Like the photos

I just like the photos. The clarity on the photos is great, especially for the close up one.

Its their seson to be sporutin' leaves and roots.
Great time to repot, and inspect roots.
