Yes you can. Just a note--you might "stress" the plant by unpotting it. However, if you suspect something might be wrong with the roots, go ahead and give it a check. Just make sure that you put all the bark pieces (or whatever media) back into the pot, and the plant stands firmly and does not wobble.

Sometimes I like to check the roots by looking through the drainage holes at the bottom or by taking out the pieces of bark at the surface to check the roots.

Hi,
If the potting media is broken down (ex. Bark mix not draining well stays excessively soggy or wet) you may need to change the media so you don't get root rot. Check you roots if you up root it if your not sure what your looking at post a pic on this thread and we will help you out as to what to do next.

Water the plant first. Gently squeeze the sides of the pot to loosen it from the medium. Hold it upside down between your fingers over newspaper to catch any loose bark. Gently lift the pot and examine the roots, then gently lower the pot back in place.

You won't stress the plant if you follow carefully the instructions 11Orchid126 generously gave you.

well good news, i did exactly what 11orchid126 said and i saw no bugs! but i could not see all the roots because some of the potting mix was in the way and i did not want to stress the plant, but im still a bit worried because this orchid has not grown any new leaf spouts since i got it about 4 weeks ago, and my other orchid (got about 4 weeks ago too) has a small leaf growing but its taking forever, i have not seen it grow much bigger than from the day i got it as opposed to my other orchid which is smaller (i've had it about 5 weeks) and growing a new leaf very fast, you can see the difference every day!

should i be worried about the other two? oh and i do fertilize them all.

No. Even if they are the same they are different and grow at their own pace. Yes you can still fertilize weakly.
