What have I gotten myself into...

Today I find myself the very excited and clueless new owner of a beautiful green cym. Now what? You know, I work at a flower shop (customer service and sales mostly) and my knowledge of orchids only applies to the CUT variety, but now i have this big beautiful plant and I desperately want to keep it alive.

So tell me, indoors or outdoors? Keep it in one spot, or have a morning location and a night location? And how often should I water it? Should I be fertilizing it on a regular basis, should I be fertilizing it at all?

There is so much info available out there. I will do my best to research old posts and other internet sites. But any advice from you guys would be very much appreciated.

Who knew I'd get so excited over an orchid? But, here I am...

Thanks!

Outdoors only, good supply of water and fertilizer. This is a terrestrial orchid you can grow in a pot or in the ground.

We can not raise them in Florida. it is too hot, so you can get more specific information from others on this site.

I also purchased one today, very big. The thing is that I don't have any outdoor space right now, we have very low temperatures. Can I keep it at warm (living room) temperatures now and when the spring will come, moving it out?

Cucamonga is a good outdoor cymbidium location. If you get frost, it is best having the plant under some kind of cover. A hard freeze, it would have to come in for the night. Full morning sun is best, pulling back under partial shade as the weather gets really hot. During the hottest weather, you can water it every day, and once a week during the coolest. This plant should not dry out completely. Fertilize every week or three.
