Dendrobium-Time to water?

About 2 months ago, someone gave me a dendrobium from "Cosco" as a hostess gift. After about a week, the fowers started to wilt and it lost all its leaves. I repottted it inot S/H and pretty much left it alone. it is a non-nobile type but I don't know the ID.

I have all my non-nobile dendrobiums in a cool dry area and I water them infrequently. Today, I noticed it is producing two or three little growths from the center of the plant.

Does this mean I should start watering and fertilizing like crazy? Should I move this plant into a warmer area with highler humidity(like with the vandas). I haven't had a great deal of luck with reblooming dendrobiums so I was very happy to see this one so happy and healthy.

Thanks,

K

Cosco sells mostly Phal-Dens because of the big flowers and they are cheap.

The new growth is a good sign of health. The plants usually grow starting in the early spring. Yours is growing since it was in a greenhouse environment when it is warmer.

Certainly you can move it to a warm area and encourage growth. Do not get carried away with fertilizer. I would still stay with 2-3 times a month and more if you put it outside when it is warm enough.

Dens are easy to flower and if yours have not re-flowered it means you have not been giving them enough light. Try a partially shaded area outside this summer and see the difference.
