Id orchid out of bloom

Hi all,
I am hooked on this forum! I live in central florida and have 8 orchids now. And Two are in their second bloom for me. I acquired one at a yard sale that need repotting and TLC. I sperated the plant into two and repotted them. They both are doing great. But I do not know what Genus it is. Is there a place to go and ID the leaves of an orchid?

Depending upon what you have this might be very tricky. There is a sticky on the forum put out by Dave to help. Orchid Photo Identification Guide
You could post a pic and see if anyone can tell.
If it has long "grassy" type leaves it could be nearly impossible without seeing the flowers. Other forms can be fairly easy. Can you describe what it looks like - does it have wide fat leaves (2-8) spreading out horizonally on two sides of a central section, canes (stalks) coming out from the media, fan shaped plant with leaves coming out from the middle, etc. mike

My orchid has two leavel coming out of a center of a tear drop shaped bulb and has one leave on each side of the bulb. The leaf shape is long stiff and come to a soft point. Its growth habit is a sideways spread. Hope this helps.

It sounds like a Cattleya, but could be several others. Why not bring it to Orlando Valentine's weekend for the Greater Orlando Orchid Society Show at the Fiesta Mall (possibly Festival Mall) near the Beltz mall off Route 4.

Jerry: I wish I could make the orchid show, but I will be camping in the Everglades that weekend. Some of us kayak out to one of the Islands and some boat out. This is our first trip and I am looking forward to it. I will keep track of my posts and see if I can upload a picture of it soon. They are very happy which is good. Thanks for your help! Lyssa
