Don't know the name of my orchid...Please help me identify it.

Hello,

I picked this orchid up in a grocery store about a year ago without a tag. It's flowers look like a daffodil.

Here is a picture of it. orchid 3_16_10.jpg

It's a cheery little mini cattleya of some kind. It's a hybrid. A more specific ID will not be possible but at least you know it is some kind of cattleya and can get a cattleya culture sheet form a place like AOS | Members Only Area or this forum so youll know how to grow it.

Thanks for the warm welcomes and replies!

Yes, I got it at the grocery store. Our grocery store has a nice selection of orchids. I'm going to buy one more today.

Sorry that I posted in the wrong place. Thanks for moving it!

hi, welcome to the forum! That is a really pretty catt and I too can't believe you got it from a grocery store. I grow a lot of catt's, too bad it doesn't have a tag, because I would really look into it for myself.

We have a lot of nice orchids in our grocery stores here in Anchorage, AK. I didn't realize how fortunate and unusual that is. (blushing)

Not so fast susan. It is possible that your mini catt is Alvin Begeman, but it is by no means certain. This line of cattleya breeding is a popular one and this could be any one of a number of different hybrids. It's simply not possible to positively ID a tagless hybrid through matching it to a couple of web pics.

I hope Susan checks back...It does look very much like that plant, but as Kevin stated, (and it's so important to remember) There are so many that are similar. If you're just going to enjoy it~ it's ok to guess, but for showing or hybridizing, it's so important to have the correct "bloodline".

btw!!

No yours is not. It looks like it could be one of the many Richard Mueller hybrids.

Further to the point we dont' know for certain that Susan's orchid is Slc. Memoria Alvin Begeman 'Poem'. There are just too many yellow mini catts with red on the lip. This is why we often say it is impossible to positively ID NOID hybrids.
