Transparent or earth pots?

After successfully growing a Phal in a transparent plastic pot, I was thinking about growing the next one in an earthen pot. But I came to know that the roots should also be exposed to light. Now, this confuses me. Advices please...the transparent ones or earthen pots

The roots don't have to be exposed to light. If the clear pots work for you, I'd continue using them.

Purely a matter of which appeals most to your eye. I prefer plastic (transparent) because I can see what's going on with the roots without de-potting the plant. If you decide to go with clay, you will water a little more frequently because the porous clay soaks up water and passes it out to the atmosphere. Plastic doesn't, so your medium stays damper longer.

It's a little more expensive, but whenever I can I like to use the transparent plastic pots so I can see what's going on with the roots, but then I put the plastic pot into a clay pot (I have a couple with lighter creme colored swirls in the clay that I really like) because I think they're pretty. I love the cute painted pots walmart has, and hope to get one or two of those later this summer.

I agree, I am a big fan of the clear pots. I like to see what is going on with the roots. I find myself digging a little at the potting mix if they are not in clear pots to make sure that the roots are still looking healthy.

The roots don't stick to plastic like they do to clay, this make repotting easier for you and the plant.

Having two different type pots that require different times to water seems too confusing. If you're not used to watering clay you can severely dry out roots. Or, if you water to suit the clay, you will drown the roots in plastic. If you want to experiment, bear in mind you will make extra work for yourself.

Clear pots work best for me, just as I can see what is going on with the roots and when to water. When mine are in flower and I am displaying them around my apartment I just pop the clear pot inside a decorative pot.

Ditto on the clear pots. That way, when nothing is happening topside, you can have the pleasure of seeing roots taking over down below!

If you like the look of clay, use it as a sleeve and just slip the clear pot into it.
