| This Phal is looking great. The keiki I think has roots enough to live independently. Nothing is to worry about. As about the many flowers - plants do not commit suicide, so I'm quite sure that yours will not bloom to death.Anyway she is doing what she wants - we wonder and learn |

Thanks again to everyone for the info..... I am loving this.... I read as much I can but sometimes things are written a little vauge and I like to be sure. I will post more once it is in full bloom... Can't wait! I am going to wait about another week till I remove the Keiki and I was wondering...... Would a 3" Diam orchid pot be fine to start it out in? It has plenty of drainage and air circualtion holes. A old present that I never got to use. |

If it were mine I'd even consider a slightly smaller pot for awhile - like 2 1/4 inch. I'd also use a little finer media (if you use medium or coarse bark on your mature phals) until it gets stronger - root-wise. I've only done it once, but in my conditions it took 18 months from separation to first bloom of the new plant. Now a year later it is resembling the young plants that you purchase at the market. Good luck! mike

I also have a smaller pot which I could use first. If you notice the Keiki already has 8 to 9 bloom bud already! To think I was scared it would have survived our moving 7 mnths ago. Last edited by Bad Buddah; 12-13-2006 at 03:19 PM. |

hi, if the keiki is about to bloom, i'd leave it on the mother plant until it's finished blooming, It's probably using the mother plant to bloom, I'd be a bit nervous that removing it now may cause the keiki to abort the blooms, or removing it now may take too much strength from the keiki if it doesn't drop the buds. in short, either i'd let it bloom where it is, or if your going to remove it from the mother plant, cut off the spike & let the keiki gain strength before it blooms next time . |

Thanks Daniel, I didn't know but I am glad you mentioned something. Now thinking about what you wrote I will leave it on till after it blooms. I moved one last year from its spot and dropped all blooms in a week... oops |
